This Court Court takeing in to consideracon That Doctor
Torlesse the standing Doctr: of this house hath on extraordinary occasions
sometimes bin diverted from attendance as the Duty of his place and the
necessity of the Patients doth require Did therefore choose and appoint
Doctr: William Dawkins< no role > to bee Assistant to the said Doctr: Torlesse in
prescribing Phisick to the Patients in the house To hold the same during
his good Behaviour and the pleasure of the Majority of the Governors of
this house.

The Peticon of Mr: Sealy Apothecary of this house for some allowance
in Regard of the great number more then Usuall of Extra-Patients that
Hee hath fore severall yeares past given Phisick unto by Order of the
Governors of the house which to over and above what was intended
when his Standing Salary was setled; Is referred to the consideracon of
the Comittee who are to Report their Opinions And Mr: Angier is added
to the same Comittee.

was this Day presented to and published and approved by this Court.

And after the reading and confirmacon of the Orders and busines of the last
Court it was Ordered as followeth (Vizt.)

Chose Chy:


The place of one of the Chirurgeons of the Hospitall being vacant by
the Death of Mr William Peirce< no role > . This day Mr. John Browne< no role > one of his Maties
Chirurgeons In Ordinary and recomended by his Maties Letter, Mr Edward Rice< no role >
Mr. William Nicholas< no role > and Caleb Coatsworth< no role > Cittizens and Chirurgeons of London
were Piticoners for the said place And the Maties Letter being read in behalf
of the said John Browne< no role > , and after that his Peticon and the Peticons of the said
other persons The Court in all humble submission to the said Letter chose the said
John Browne< no role > to succeed Chirurgeon of this Hospitall in the place of the said
William Peirce< no role > ; To hold with the usuall Salary during his good behavior
and the pleasure of the Majority of he Governors of this house, And afterwards
the Court considering the Condicon of the said Edward Rice< no role > with Relacon to an
Order of this Court made the 9. day of February 1665 whereby it appeares her
exposed his Life in undertaking the pure of severall Officers and all the
Patients of this house in the time of the late dreadfull Plague, and cured.
severall of them, when all the Chirurgeons that were in office deserted the service
in regard of the has hazardousnes thereof And therefore that Court recomended
him to bee specially considered for a Chirurgeons place on the next
