Mr Richardson

St. Thomas's Hospl. 20o. June 1729

Mr. Lawrence Bingham< no role > has laid a Case before the
Grand Committee of this Hospital representing that he
has been put to a very large expence in defending
Actions brought agt. him for Levying Poors rates
wch. he was obliged to do for the Support of the Poor
and was Authorized thereto by a Warrt. founded on
your Custom of Choosing your parish Officers at
Christmas which has been since a judged an illegal
Custom as Contrary to the Statute and that he is
likewise threatned to be ruined by more Actions on ye
Same Occation yet the Parish takes no care to assist
him with due Contributions to his Charge or to
Settle the differance, that have arison so as to
prevent his being oppresed with further Suits
altho his proceedings were intended for the benefit
of the Parish & what he could not have omitted
without Suffering ye Censure & penalty of refusing to
obey the Justices Warrt:

The Grand Committee apprehen'd that if that
Case be as is represented to them it is but comon
Justice & equity for the several Inhabitants of the
parish to Contribute their proportion to this mans
indemnity and they recomend it to all their tenants
to act accordingly and if there be any dificulty in the
matter Mr. Bingham offers to Submit to the determ-
ination of any two Gentlemen of the Neighbourhood
which the Comittee thinks a Very fair proposal

I am your humble Servt:
Thos: Matthew< no role > CI
