Lock's Gift}


Mr. Deputy Ballard one of the Governors of this Hospital reporting to this
Court that in pursuance of an Order of Court the 21st of August last He and Mr.
Samuel Smith< no role > another of the Governors of this Hospital had made Enquiry and
found that Edward Carnoll< no role > who served his Apprenticeship in this Hospital set up
for himself in the Trade of a Weaver and has the Character of a diligent and sober
Man It is Ordered that he Steward of this Hospital do give and pay unto the
said Edward Carnoll Ten pounds out of Mr. Lock's gift to be allowed him in his
next Account.

Mr. Robert Hall< no role > one of the Governors of this Hospital reporting to this Court
that in pursuance of an Order of Court the 21st of August last He and Mr. Richard
Bridgman
< no role > another of the Governors of this Hospital had made Enquiry and found
that John Richardson< no role > who served his apprenticeship in this Hospital is set up
for himself in the Trade of a Weaver and has the Character of a diligent and sober
Man It is Ordered that the Steward of this Hospital do give and pay unto the said
Edward Carnoll< no role > Ten pounds out of Mr. Locks gift to be allowed him his next
Account.

Elected Artsmaster}


Upon reading the humble Petition of john Surman< no role > Citizen and Weaver of
London settingforthThat he is willing to comply with all the Orders of
this Court made and to be made in relation to Artsmaster and to take such
number of Apprentice as the Governors shall think fit to allot him and praying to be
elected an Artsmaster in the room of Mr James Lipscomb< no role > who has resigned
And the Question being put that the said John Surman< no role > be elected an Artsmaster
of this Hospital in the room of the said Mr. Lipscomb He was accordingly
Elected an Artsmaster till the next Election dayWhereupon It is Ordered
that the said John Surman< no role > (up delivering a Certificate of his Setlement to the
Clerk and producing a Copy of his Freedom of this City) be admitted an Artsmaster
of this Hospital giving Security as usual in the like cases and entring into the
usual Covenants with a Covenant to be added that he will not set up or use any
Engine Looms in this Hospital and that the Journeyman which he shall employ
in his said Trade shall be such as have served their Apprenticeship in this Hospital
And it is further Ordered that he have such Apparment as the Comittee of
this House shall direct.

At this Court the persons hereunder named were Ordered to be made
free of this City having served their Apprenticeships in this Hospital to the
Artsmasters her under mentioned Vizt
