Wards of the Hospitall to the ground remaining of the old Shopps and houses as
aforesaid And mother for a Front is peice att and and over the Gateway Wee hoped
to manage the busines soe with the Tennants as would render it in the
compleating of it (in the best of our Understandings) for the honour of the
Goverment of the house the saftty of the scite of the Hospitall Yea and att the
same time the improvement of the Revenue it selfe And in pursuance of those ended
Wee hadseveral Treaties with some of the principall Tennants butt
could not agree intill a very few daies before the Sessions And then having
agreed with Two of them not only they but att the rest without any Order or
direccon from the Comittee pulled downs their houses and Shopps (is wee
suppose to prevent or miltgate the Fine the next Sessions would have bin
inflicted as they feared upon them

And after the demolishing Wee haveing a more open View of the walls of
the Wards of the Hospitall Wee found an Inchroachment long continued
whereby not only a peice of ground about Eight inches broad and One
and Thirty foote in depth from the Treete wad got from ps and another peice
in the Treete of about Fower foote square but alsoe some of the Timbers of
the house to which this Inchroachment was added doth beare on our Watt
This house is the Inheritance of George Paine< no role > who hath agreed with
ps to pay the Hospitall a Fine of Five and Twenty pounds and an
anuall Rent of Twenty shillings for a Lease of the said ground and
Liberty to beare Timber on the said now Hospitall Wall or on a new wall
as now hee doth for Fower and Thirty yeares from Lady day next and a
Lease for three yeares of another peice of ground belonging to this
Hospitall now used with another house back wards of the said George
Paines

being Expires at the rent of Twenty shillings P ann over and about the
said Twenty Shillings P ann

And for the late houses and Shopps Wee have agreed with Henry
Bartelott
< no role > our Tennant of the late house next and over the Gate That in
consideracon of his surrendring the Lease of hid late house wherein
Eight yeares was to come at Michmas last and of the Fine of One
Hundred and Fifty pounds to bee paid att Lady day next And in consideracon
of new building an house designed by the said plott to bee built on the
ground sett out for an house next to and on the Northside of the gate to
the Hospitall according to the Rules and direccons prescribed for
second rate buildings in and by the late Act of Parliament for
rebuilding the Citty of London (Except the back wall dividing the same
from the Hospitall which shalbee to bricks thick to the Topp) and makeing
a brick Wall of the Thickness of a party wall prescribed by the said
act betweene the gateway and the other parte of the house and makeing
good all damages to bee done to the Scite of the said Hospitall by
occassion of takeing downe any parte thereof in order to the said building
Hee shall have a Lease of the said intended new house and the P 100
Roomes only which are to bee erected over the said Gateway at the
Hospitals charge with the use of the Flatt of lead to bee laid over thor
roomes in comon with the Hospitall Excepting Liberty for us to lay
Timber on the Walls next the intended Porters Lodge and the Hospitall
for One and Forty yeares from Lady day next at the yearely rent of
Six pounds and Fower pounds P ann in the meane time
