The Information of William
Gunn
< no role > of Red Cross Street East Smithfield
in the Parish of St. Botolph Aldgate
Labourer Taken this 1st. day of August
1781 before me one of his Majestys
Jsutices of the Peace in and for the
said County.

Who being on his Oath Saith that on the
30th. day of July last he was Employed by Captain
James Inner Master of the Ship Mary Ann then
lying off Shadwell Deck Hairs to take Care of and
Watch the Cargo of the said Ship Consisting of Pyments
Sugar Rums etc. in Consequence whereof he went on
Board said Ship and was there when part of the
Cargo was unloaded out of the Ship into a Lighter
and that between the hours of Twelve and One O Clock
in the Morning of the first day of August Inst.
having Iron walking the Ships Deck and being a little
Drowry Sat himself down upon an Armed Chest but
had Sat there a very Short Space of time when Starting
up of a Sudden he perceived a man now present who
calls himself John Jones< no role > (in the Lighterinwhich had
received part of the said Ships Cargo) with a Bag
of Pyments (here produced ) in his Arms. upon which
he called out Stop Thief when immediately after Mr.
John Dunn< no role > Mate of the said Ship Mary Ann came
upon Deck & Jumping in the Lighter secured the said
John Jones< no role > who on being Asked by the Mate what
he was Annvered he was an Officer belonging to the
next Ship.

Saith that the Pyments was Deposited in the
