Middlesex to wit

The Informations of Nicholas Gordelier< no role > and
William Marshall< no role > taken and made on Oath
before me one of his Majesty's Justices of the
peace for the County of Middlesex the 20th. day
of August 1781

This Informant Nicholas Gordelier< no role > saith that he
keeps a Linen drapers Shop in Brich Lane Bethnal Green
in the said County. That this day between the Hours of
three and four o' Clock this afternoon there was feloniously
Stolen out of his said Shop [..] a Piece of linen Check
containing fourteen Yards this Informants Property and
that this Informant Suspects that one Sarah Hawkins< no role >
is the Person who Stole the same by reason that on this
Informants being told that a person had robbed him he
went out into the Street where the said William Marshall< no role >
was in pursuit of the said Sarah Hawkins< no role > and saw her
drop the said Piece of Check. And this Informant William
Marshall< no role > saith that about the time aforesaid he saw the sad
Sarah Hawkins< no role > go into the said Nicholas Gordeliers< no role > Shop
aforesaid aid presently return with something concealed
in her Apron. That this Informant, suspecting she had
robbed the Shop, went into the said Nicholas Gordeliers< no role >
House but no Person was then in the Shop, That he
communicated his Suspicion to Mrs. Gordelier who told
this Informant on looking about the Shop that she missed
a Piece of Check; Whereupon this Informant with all
speed went after the said Sarah Hawkins< no role > and overlook
her a little way from the said Nicholas Gordelier< no role > 's with
the Piece of Check, which she threw down on the Ground
and then this Informant took her into Custody.
