Continued Thursday 18th. April 1776
The ballance on Settling the Committee
of Treasury Accoutns for both the Hospital
amounted to £46..15..5d which has been paid over
to Nathaniel Thomas< no role >
Esquire
the present
treasurer
and he has Accounted for the Same}
46..15..5
There was due from Nathaniel Thomas< no role >
Esquire
treasurer
at Christmas last a ballance
on Account of both the Hospitals of}
155..9..8
Due to Mr. Woodhouse the Clerk1..4..1¼
Due to Mr. Griffiths the Steward1404..11..2½
But there Appearing to be due from Mr. Waite Late Steward
(Father in Law to Mr. Griffiths) the sum of £925..10s..2d which we find
after a Deduction of what the Court and the Auditors shall think
reasonable to be allowed for his Additional trouble in Collecting
in several increased Rents and Settliing with a Number of the
Tenants Mr. Griffiths is ready to pay or write off his Ballance
We think it right to settle the Account in that way and considering
the trouble Mr. Waite had in Keeping the Accounts for several
Years and receiving upwards of £12700.. neat Money from
upwards of 200 Additional Tenants and that his Salary was
only £50 a year we think it but reasonable he should be allowed
the Additional Sum of £20 P Annum for 10 Years ending at
Midsummer last amounting to £200 and when the Account is on
liqudated we think Mr. Griffiths should be paid the remainder of the
Ballance due to him out of the first Rents and Arrears that come
to his Hands.
There Appears to be a ballance due from the Representatives
of Samuel John< no role >
Esqr
. formerly Clerk
to these Hospital of £196..0s..2d
but we have been informed that his Respresentatives have some
demands on the Hospitals for Law Business done by him exclusive
of the usual Salary.
There also Appears to be a Ballance of £197..10s..7½d due
from Christopher Cast< no role >
formerly Clerk
to Joseph Taylor< no role >
we dont
find there is any thing to Answer that ballance therefore we
think it should be Wrote off.
Also a Ballance of £150.. due from Robert Cox< no role >
the former
Hempdresser
which we find is of no more value than that of Custs.
There appears to be a ballance of £825..14s.. due from the
Representatives of Charles Cotton< no role >
formerly Steward
of Bridewell Hospital
which by two several Orders of Court dated respectively the 8th April 1762 &
23d. May 1764 were Compounded & therefore we think shod. be wrote off.
