Hill-John< no role > Petn for Damage
sustained by a Sewer in Gravel lane
refered}

Upon reading the humble Petition of John Hill< no role > Hackney Coachman
settingforthThat at the lower end of Old Gravel Lane a Sewer
belonging to the Estate of this Hospital lay open in the Night there being no
light hung up or placed near the same, nor any person attending to give notice or
prevent the Mischiefs which in such Cases might happenThat his Coach
and one of his Horses (for want of such light or notice) fell into the said
Server in the night whereby he sustained Damage to the amount of £3.4
and praying the court will direct the same to be paid to himIt is
Ordered That the said Petition be rejected

Upon Reading the humble Petition of James Waldo< no role > Citizen and Long Bowstring
maker one of the Artsmasters of this Hospital of Bridewell settingforthThat he is the only
Artsmar. occupying the Trade of an Hempdresser in the said Hospital and for the
better employing the Prisoners comitted to hard labour and the more
effectually instructing the apprentices bound to him by the Govrs. is oblidged
to keep a large Quantity of Hemp and Flax thereThat he being permitted
to lay Hemp and Flax in a large Warehouse in the Outward Court of the said
Hospital had a great Quantity therein which cost him £226.16.-when the fire
happen'd on the 3d of Janry instant about nine of the Clock in the Night which
burn't with such violence that it consumed great part of the said Goods
which were in the said Warehouse before proper releif could be had to
extinguish the said Fire and what part thereof remained unconsumed was
to greatly damaged that he was obliged to tell the same for £40, so that his
Loss amounts to £106.16That looking upon it that his goods were safe
in a place where two Fire Engines with a sufficient assistance were ready at
hand and a watch continually kept had not made any Insurance upon his
said Goodsand Praying the Govrs to take his Misfortunes into Consideracon
and give him such releif therein as to their great goodness and Compassion
shall seem meetIt is Ordered that it be referred to the Comee of the said
Hospital to consider of the said Petition and to report their Opinion therein to
the Court.

the Nomination of the several Governors hereafter named Vizt.

At this Court Thomas Gutteridge< no role > was Ordered to be made free of this City having
served his Apprenticeship in this Hospital to Daniel Nipp< no role > late one of the Artsmasters
by Indre dated the 11th day of April 1720

Cort an accot of their Duty}


Ordered That each Officer and Servant belonging to these Hospitals do prepare
and lay before the next Court to be read and considered a Certificate in writing
signed particularly explaining what they apprehend to be the care Duty and
Trust of each of them respectively
