Bridewell Prcinct Referred}


Upon reading the humble Petition of Christopher Beaty< no role > settingforth
ThatPowell had for some time past been Tenant at Will of an House
which was formerly divided and a Timber yard in Bridewell Precinct and a
Wharf containing from North to Southpart of the possessions of
the said Hospital at the yearly Rent of Eighty pounds and is desirous to
quit the same to him That the said House and Timber yard being out of
Repair & he is willing to take a Lease thereof for 21 Years to comence from Laday
next at the Old Rent of £80. on the same being put into good Repair or to
pay a Ground Rent of £35. P Ann and to lay out £400. in repairs of the
premes and to pay a Fine of £100. And praying that the Governors will grant
him a Lease according to his said proposalsIt is Ordered that it be
referred to the Comittee of this house to consider of the said Petition and to
Report their Opinion therein to this Court.

ThatAppleby held under several Leases
Vizt. No 31.36 & 37 Three Houses and a Wood yard in Bridewell Precinct part
of the possions of the said Hospital which Leases are lately expired That the said
Houses and Woodyard are out of Repair and he is willing to take a Lease
thereof for 61 years to comence from the expiration of 2 years after making such
Contract at the yearly Rent of £45. and to lay out £2000. in building and
repairs and to pay a Fine of £300. or to take a Lease for the same Term of
the Woodyard late in the occupation of Powell part of the said
premisses and to pay a ground rents of £16. a year and to layout £1500 in
building & repairs and to pay a fine of £150. as the court shall think fitt
And praying that the Governors will grant him a Lease according to his
said proposalsIt is ordered that it to referred to tho Comittee of this house to consider
of the said Petition and to Report their Opinion therein to this Court.

Upon reading the humble Petition of James Strickland< no role > settingforth
That he is willing to take a Lease of Nine old houses on the South side of
Bethlem Street in old Bethlem part of the possions of this Hospital and the
said Tenemts. being old Timber Buildings and so much decayed that part
thereof must be pulled down and rebuilt And he being willing to take a Lease
thereof for 41 years to comence from Michas last at a Pepper corn Rent for
the first year and to pay a Fine of £50. and to pay £16 P Ann for the
residue of the Term and to rebuild such of the said premes as are necessary
to be rebuilt and to put the other part thereof in good repair at his own Charge
And praying that the Governors will grant him a Lease according to his
said proposalsIt is Ordered. that it be referred to the Comittee of
this House to consider of the said Petition & to Report their opinion therein
to this Court.

Upon Reading a Report from the Comittee of this house under the hands
of Robert Alsop< no role > Esqr . Aldn . Trear Phineas Cheek< no role > Esqr . Mr Philip Scarth< no role > Mr
Robert Bishops< no role > Mr. James Bartlett< no role > bearing date the 16th. of Aprillastinstant in the
words and figures following Vizt.Daniel Weston of the Parish of
St. John in Wapping in the County of Middx Cooper Lewis Weston< no role > of the
same place Cooper and William Pike< no role > of the Parish of St. George in the East in
the said County of Middx Carpenter propose to take of the Governors of
Bridewell Hospital a Lease with such Covenants as are usually contained in the
Leases from the said Governors to their Tenants in Wapping of the severall
Tenements and back grounds formerly demised to Grace Saunders< no role > situate
near Wapping New Stairs for 61 years commencing from Lady day 1731
at the yearly Rent of £20. payable Quarterly clear of all Taxes and to pay a
Fine of £240 and also to make the Gateway over the Passage loading from
Wapping Street to Cinamon Lane 12 foot high from the Pavement to the
underside of the Bressimer and 10 foot wide at the South end and 9 foot at
the North end and to make the Passage from the Gateway to the extent of the
back front of the house in the East side of the said Passage 12 foot wide and
from thence to Cinamon Land 18 foot wide To pull down the two small
brick
