Caleb Blant< no role > Apprentice to John Burnham< no role > one of the Artsmasters of this Hospital being
brought before this Court from the Hempblocks was accused by his said Master for imbezelling
14 lb which he received from a Customer and running away from him & being a great Lyer
It is Ordered That he be continued at hard labour at the Hempblocks.

This Court being informed by one of the Governors that James Vaughan< no role > lately
elected an Artsmaster but not yet admitted into the Hospital had an Information brought against
him in the Lord Mayers Court for Cruelty to one of his Apprentices which appeared to the Court
so very barbarous that they thought fitt to discharge the Apprentice from him It is Ordered
That notice be inserted in the Tickets for the next Court to Consider whether James Vaughan< no role >
lately Elected an Artsmaster shall be admitted into the Hospital.

Upon reading a Report from the Committee of this house under the hands of
Robert Alsop< no role > Esqr . Alderman Trear Mr. Deputy Davis Mr. William Brent< no role > Mr. Edward
Holloway
< no role > Mr. Thomas Skip< no role > & Mr. James Dansie< no role > bearing date the 25 October last Vizt.
Mr. Treasurer having acquainted this Comee that he had received an Anonymous Letter giving
an Account That a Woman Prisoner in this Hospital had been carried to some Gentlemen at a
Tavern by one of the Beadles who left her several hours in the room with them whilst he was entertaind
at their Expence in another Room and had five Shillings given him for his attendance when he took
her backagenThe Comee examined Joseph Gynes< no role > This name instance is in set 1605. the Porter of this Hospital who said he
believed that Mary Barber< no role > als Ruffit< no role > a Prisoner in this Hospital was on Friday the 13th of Septr.
carried out of the Hospital but that he knew nothing of it till that Evening when Jery Heather< no role >
came to him and said he had brought the Woman back from the Tavern and upon his the said Gynes's
asking how he came to go with her thither He said Allibone (the Hempdressers Servant who looks
after the Woman prisoners) went with himThen Jery Heather< no role > was called in who said that
on Friday the 13th Septr. about 3 o'Clock in the Afternoon Mr. Poole an Attorney in Salisbury Court
came to him & told him that Mary Barber< no role > a Prisoner in this Hospital was to be Evidence in a Cause
about which he & his Clyent wanted to discourse with her and desired he would bring her to 'em at the
Castle Tavern in Fleetstreet for that purpose upon which he and Allibone went with her thither & found
the said Mr. Poole with several other Gentlemen in a Room where they left the said Mary Barber< no role > &
went into the Kitchen & had a Pint of Wine and carried her back to the Matrons house a little after
Six o Clock He said he was not then aware it was wrong but did it Inconsiderably without any
ill Design and begged pardon for it & hoped the Comee would forgive himAfter this the said
Mr. Pool Mr. Johnson an Attorney in Deanstreet Fetter Lane Mr Daniel Perry< no role > a Currier in Fetter lane and Mr. Puxty a Currier in
Shoe lane came to the Comee & said that one John Perry< no role > a Currier in Fetter Lane having been drunk
for severall days together at the Crown Tavern in Drury lane gave three Notes for about £80
for which he was sued as likewise for £80. more for his reckoningThat the said Mary
Barber
< no role > had sent to Mr. Perry to lett him know that She was Barrkeeper at the Crown at that
time and was a subscribing Witness to the Notes and would discover to him the fraud that had
been put upon him in the Notes and the Reckoning and thereupon Mr. Poole and Mr Perry applyed to Sr. Richard
Brocas
< no role > to discharge her which being refused Mr. Pool came to Jery Heather< no role > and acquainted
him with the matter and desired him to bring the said Mary Barber< no role > to the Castle that they might
hear what Information she could give 'em in order to bring a Bill in Chancery for Mr. Perry to
be releived and urging the Necessity of her Evidence in the Case Jery Heather< no role > consented to bring
her
