Who being upon Oath saith that he was an Officer in his
Majestys Service at Gorce on the Coast of Africa
from the seventh of
May 1779 to the Sixteenth of August 1779That he hath read an Acquittance
or Receipt now shewn to him purporting to be the Acquittance or Receipt
of James Rooke< no role >
Lieutenant Colonel, to Mr. Gambold Purser< no role >
of his
Majestys Ship the Superbe; for Provisions Goods Etc for the use of the
Garrison of Gorce
aforesaid, and bearing date the tenth of May
1779-That this Informant cannot be positive whether the Words James
Rooke< no role >
" subscribed to the said Acquittance or Receipt were wrote by
this Informant or not; but this Informant believes that the Abridgement
of "Lieut." is not of this Informants hand WritingThat this Informant
hath read an Information of David Mc Cormick< no role >
now produced bearing
date the tenth of April instant from which Information and other
Circumstances he this Informant doth believe that the Names
"James Rooke< no role >
Lieutt. Colonel" subscribed to the Acquittance or
Receipt aforesaid, are false forged and counterfeited.
