Examination TextThe Examination of Sarah Stradford singlewoman in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this sixth Day of May 1752. this Examinant upon her oath saith that she never was married, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mrs. Abel at the Bell Bagnio in St Martin's Lane in the Parish aforesaid for the space of one whole year at the yearly wages of 4 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same about two years ago and never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor hath been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since, And this Examinant upon her oath further saith that she was on the 17th Day of April instant delivered at the door of Mr Beesley, Pawn Broker the corner of Dawson's Alley in St Martin's Lane in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields aforesaid of a Male bastard Child (since christened Joseph) yet living and become chargeable to the said Parish, and that George Green a Chairman plying the corner of Cecil Court had carnal knowledge of her body about the month of August last at the house of Mr Holloway's in Kynastons Alley up two pair of stairs in and upon a bed there at which time he the said George Green did beget on her body the said Male bastard child, and that he the said George Green is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the sixth Day of May 1752 before Benjamin Cox, James Fraser.
