Examination TextThe Examination of Elizabeth Smith widow lodging at the sign of the Watermans Arms in Hungerford Market in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this ninth day of August in the year of our Lord 1755. This Examinant on her oath says that she very well knows Samuel Neale aged five years and upwards now with this Examinant to be lawful issue of John Neale by Elizabeth his wife of both deceased, that the said John Neale was a Narrow Weaver by trade and served seven years apprenticeship to Mr Thomas Ridge, a Narrow Weaver the West side of Villers Street in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields aforesaid, that he the said John Neale never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant after the expiration of the said apprenticeship. Sworn the Day and year abovesaid before Benjamin Cox.
