Examination TextThe Examination of Elizabeth Cribb servant to Mr Boon, a Butcher the corner of Bedfordbury in Chandos Street in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields within the liberty of Westminster taken upon oath this 12th Day of September in the year of our Lord 1770. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 24 years of age, that she never was married, that she is a yearly hired servant to Mr Boon abovewritten and hath been a yearly hired servant to the said Mr Boon in Chandos Street aforesaid for the space of three years at the yearly wages of 4 pounds 10 shillings diet and lodging, and this Examinant upon her voluntary oath further saith that she is now Great with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of Martin in St Martin in the Fields, and that James Cotton, late a journeyman to the said Mr Boon (but is now absconded), did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said James Cotton is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before Peter Planck.
