Examination TextMargaret Read aged 35 years in the workhouse of and in the parish of St. Martin in the Fields upon her oath saith that she never was married, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr. Watson, a Victualler at the sign of the Two Brewers in Hedge Lane in the parish aforesaid for the space of three years at the yearly wages of fifty shillings diet & lodging, quitted the same about six years ago, that she hath not kept house, rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year, paid any parish taxes, nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since. Taken in the Workhouse the 24th day of June 1771.
