Examination TextThe Examination of Elizabeth Boode in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields within the liberty of Westminster taken the first Day of September 1773. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 21 years of age, that she never was married nor bound an apprentice, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr Watson a Shoemaker in Old Round Court in the Parish aforesaid for the space of 14 months all under one hiring at the yearly wages of 5 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the said service about 18 months ago, that she never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since, that she was on the 20th of July last delivered at Mr Read's a Victualler at the sign of the Two Chairmen in that part of Warwick Street which is in the Parish aforesaid of a female bastard child (since christened Mary) yet living and is become chargeable to the Parish aforesaid, and that Thomas Farrell a Chairman and is gone to Ireland as this Examinant hath been informed did beget on her body the said female bastard child, and that he the said Thomas Farrell is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the then year abovesaid before Thomas Kynaston. 74-280.
