Examination Text | The Examination of Jane Lewellin in the Workhouse of and in St Martin in the Fields taken this 25th Day of September in the year 1782. This Examinant on her Oath saith That she is about 32 years of age, That she never was Married, That she was a yearly hired servant to Mr. Bell a Taylor in Northumberland Street in the parish aforesaid for the space of three years all under one hiring at the yearly wages of five pounds diet and lodging quitted the same about seven years ago, That she hath not kept house rented a tenement of ten pounds by the year paid any Parish taxes nor been a yearly hired Servant in any one place for twelve months together since, And this Examinant on her Oath further saith That she was on the twenty sixth day of August last delivered in the Workhouse aforesaid of a Female Bastard Child (since Christened Elizabeth) yet living and is become chargeable to the parish aforesaid, And that Thomas Williams a Clerk but to who or where he is now she cannot tell Did beget on her Body the said Female Bastard Child, And that the said Thomas Williams is the true and only Father thereof and no Man else. |
