Examination TextMartha Norton aged thirty four years lodging last in a Court leading into St Martin's Lane in the Parish of St Martins Lane Saith she is the wife of Samuel Norton to whom she was marryed at the Bull and Garter at the ffleet two years agpand that he went from her on the first of May last since which she hath not seen him that he is by trade a Shoemaker and hath informed her that he is by trade a Shoemaker and hath informed her that he was born and served his time to that Business in Norfolk but whereabouts never heard Saith he never was a yearly hired Servant kept House rented ten pounds by the year or paid any parish Taxes to her Knowledge that he was discharged from Coll. Charles Howards Companey in the second Regiment of ffoot Guards in June 1736 Saith she was bound an Apprentice by Indenture for one year to one Alexander Knapton Gent and Mary Elizabeth his wife Mantuamaker and that she lodged with her ffather William Wilks who was a Silk Throster and lodged with one Waterhouse Tobacconist the Corner of Earls Court Drury Lane and that the same expired 18 years ago and that she never was a Servt before or since was born in Winkford Street in Spittlefields Hamlet in the Parish of Stepney and that her said father afterwards removed to the next house to the China house in Long Acre but knows not what Rent he paid that he kept it near a twelvemonth and she has this Examints lived there with him and from thence removed into Earls Court aforesd Sworn
