Examination TextJohn Shepherd aged 30 years and upwards in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields upon his oath saith that he hath been informed and verily believes that he was born where the burying ground now is in Drury Lane in the Parish aforesaid, that he never was bound an apprentice, kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together, that his Father [blank] Shepherd was a Soldier, that he hath been informed that he was born in the County of Nottingham but the particular part cannot tell, that he never was bound an apprentice kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together to this Examinant's knowledge, that he this Examinant was married to his present wife Elizabeth at the Parish Church of North Hall in the County of Middlesex about 13 years ago by whom he hath two children to wit Barnard aged 12 years and James aged one year and a half both now with this Examinant. Taken in the workhouse the sixth day of January 1772.
