Examination TextFrances St. Amour aged about 65 years in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields upon her oath saith that she is the widow of William St Amour (who died about two years ago) to whom she was married at the Cathedral of St. Paul London the fourth Day of September in the year 1731, that her said husband was a Major in the army and lived in and rented a house in Dukes Court in St Martin's Lane in the Parish aforesaid for the space of seven years at the yearly rent of 25 pounds besides taxes, quitted the same about three years and a half ago, that her said husband never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes afterwards, that she is examinant hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since the death of her said husband. Taken in the workhouse the second Day of December 1771.
