William Mainwaring< no role > Esqr the Chairman laid before the Court a
Letter from George Odell< no role > the Contractor for performing the Bricklayers Work at
the New House of Correction for this County and the same being Read as follows
Vizt.

Gentleman

The very many great Inconveinceys I have lately labour'd
under respecting the various Stoppages by the Mason for want of Stone to
Carry on the business of the New Bridewell Cold Bath fields induces me to beg
the Favour of being heard by the this worthy and respectable Court, hoping the
same may be taken in mature consideration as I reely am very much injured
both in loss of time and property being obliged to pay a regular Foreman to
attend this business constant and often cannot employ more than Six or Eight
Bricklayers and sometimes have been oblig'd to discharge a part of them, their
has been Stones wanted for the Privy and have absolutely been order'd ever since
October last and have not been brought there as yet, Yr Compliance Gentleman
with this my request, will much Oblige

Mr Rogers the County Surveyor and Clerk of the Works at the
said House of Correction was called in who stated that he was every day now
receiving Stone, that he had advice of 200 Jons being Shipped and that there is
now as he conceives about 90 Jons of Stone upon the Premises and only four
Masons at Work, and that the Work is now almost standing still, and at
the Rate it goes on at present it will be mary Years before it can be compleated
and that it is entirely the fault of the Mason that the Work proceeds so slowly.

Henry Holland< no role > Esqr one of the Members of the Committee stated
it as his Opinion that a great saving might be made in Executing the
remaining part of the Building and that a great part of the Stone Work
might with propriety be omitted - The Court proceeded to the New House of
