Report of the Prison Committee}

The following Report from the Committee appointed to carry
into immediate and effectual Execution the repair of New prison and
Clerkenwell Bridewell being laid before this Court and the same
being read as follows Vizt.

To His Majestys Justices of the Peace for the County of Middlesex
in their April Session 1783 assembled.

The Report of the Committee appointed to
carry into immediate and effectual Execution
the repair of New prison and Clerkenwell

The said Committee Report

Fees for the discharge
of prisoners out of New
prison and the House
of Correction all to [..]
reduced from 7sh. to 5/6.}

That having taken into consideration the Orders of
Referrence to them made at the last Session of the peace held for the
County, and also the Resolutions of April Session 1775 whereby the
Fee of 5s/6d. for the discharge of Prisoners out of the House of Correction
at Clerkenwell and New prison at Clerkenwell was raised to 7sh. and
it appearing to the Committee that the said fee of 7sh. has never been
settled and confirmed pursuant to the directions of the Statute of the
2d. of George 2d. The Committee recommend it to the Court to
reduce the fee of 7sh. for the discharge of Prisoners out of the said
Goals to 5/6d. the said Sum 5/6d. being the ancient and legally
established Fee for the discharge of Prisoners out of the said Goals.

The said Committee further Report That
having taken into consideration the Sallary or Allowance of £50
P Annum granted to the Governour of the House of Correction at
Clerkenwell in October Session 1778 for the care and trouble brought
upon him in consequence of the Act of parliament passed in the
Sixteenth Year of the Reign of his present Majestys For authorism
for a limitted time the punishment by hard labour of Offenders
who for certain Crimes are or shall become liable to be transport
to any of his Majestys Colonies and plantations and it appearing
to your Committee that great numbers of Convicts still continuous
