reported that the apartments at Bridewell near the Great Gate ne [..]
used as a Lodge and those lately occupied by the Matron may be
easily altered into a Tap for the said Prison without any communication
therewith except by a Wicket as in the other Goal and that as the
Gate and Wall seems necessary to be rebuilt that two additional
Rooms may be Erected over the same for Night charges Etc.in [..]
of those now proposed to be appropriated to the Tap and that the
Keepers Lodge may also be placed under the said Rooms the
Exhence of which necessary and useful alteration will not exceed
the Sum of £150 wherefore the Committee Seriously recommend
that the Court do agree to this Resolution as it will lend greatly to
the better regulation of the said Goal by keeping the Prisoners from
from the temptation of Liquor and thence more awoke to their
Situation

The said Committee Report that having
reassumed the Consideration of an Act of Parliament passed in the
fourteenth Year of his present Majestys Reign intituled An Act
"for the Relief of prisoners charged with felony or other Crimes who Sh [..]
"be acquitted or discharged by Proclamation respecting the Payment of
"fees to Goalers and giving a recompence for such fees out of the Court
"Rates" and the benefit which the Justices Goalers and others have
claim be under the same which said Act was recommitted at the
last Session the Committee are of Opinion that the Fee due to the Keep [..]
of Clerkenwell Bridewell for the discharge of every prisoner act of [..]
Custody not dischargeable under the late Act of Parliament for the
Relief of Prisoners charged with felony Etc. or who are not otherwise
Exempt from the payment of Fees be raised from 5/6 to 77 and
that this increase is in lieu of any Sallary or other annual
Allowance from the County to the said Keeper of Clerkenwell
Bridewell and all other advantages that might be derived to [..]
by virtue of the said Act of Parliament That a Sum not exceeding
£20 per Annum or the proportionable part thereof according to the
time be allowed for the prisoners discharged under the said Act in
the Confirmation of the aforesaid Resolution by the Court

That as all Middlesex Prisoners who have
for many Years back been Tried at theOld Bailey a [..]
acquitted or otherwise discharged have been discharged without the
payment of fees to the Keeper of Newgate for such acquitted or
discharge The Committee are of Opinion that no fees are or can
due to the Keeper of Newgate by virtue of the said Act for the
