The Committee also ordered the payment of £50 to [..]
Thomas Rogers< no role > their Surveyor on account of his Demand in superin
-tending the Repair of New Prison and also the like Sum on Acco [..]
to Mr. Eyles for Expences incurred under order of this Committee

The Committee further Report That had
advertised for proposals for Paving the Mens Court Yard at New
Prison they obtained two Which being alike in prices and the one being
offered by Joseph Brayne< no role > who has Executed the Masons Work in the
repair of the prison the Committee closed with his proposal Vizt
To pave the Yard with good Old purbeck Squares from five to Seven
Inches deep at 4/6 P Yd. to be laid in the best screened Gravel. To [..]
pave the Shed with good second hand squared Purbeck paving at [..]
4/6 P Yard

They also Resolved to pave that part of the public Str [..]
which lies before the front Gate of New Prison as far as the Gully [..]
in like manner as the Yard and on the same terms thereby conceiving
as there will be little or no Wear of pavement that it will be more
for the Advantage of the County to pave this Spot themselves then
annually to contribute to the General rate for Paving the Street
Etc. in the parish in which the said price of Ground lies

The Committee ordered a Pump to be Erected [..]
the Mens Court Yard for the Use of the Prisoners and also that
Water be laid on the Keepers House and the Tap from the New
River Main

The said Committee further Report There
fore seeing the good that must necessarily result from the plan that
had been adapted in the late Repair of the Goal of separating the
Tap from the Prison whence the too easy and improper access [..]
Liqour by the persons confined there will in a great measure be pra [..]
and their Confinement by having thence rendered less agreeable [..]
become more exemplary and as the additional help to this importance
and will be to have the Tap itself under the more immediate
controul of the Justices the Committee do therefore recommend
the Court that the House built adjoining to New prison
intended as a public House and Tap House to the said pr [..]
be let by the Clerk of the peace with the approbation of the Justice
bran Lady day last for the benefit of the County That the sam [..]
be let as Will to a proper Tenant for the most improved Rent
