Joseph Russell< no role > of London Mariner master of the Ship or Vessel called the Sarah and
Henry Powell< no role > of London Mariner Mate of the said Ship or Vessel maketh Oath and saith
that on or about the Twenty fourth day of November in the Year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and seventy there were shipped or leaden on
board the said Ship or Vessel one thousand two hundred and Eighty Bushels or Thirty
two Tens of English White Salt at Lymington in the County of Hants in Order to be
conveyed by Sea to the Port of London for and on account of John Davies< no role > of London Merchant
the owner of the said Salt and that the Duties for the said Salt had been paid to His
Majesty and that on or about the Twenty seventh day of the same month of November
the said Ship or Vessel with the said Salt on Board her sailed from Lymington
aforesaid for the Port of London and that in the course of her voyage on the same day
a violent Storm arose between Beachy Head and the Isle of White and that by the force
and violence of the Sea the sides of the said Ship or Vessel (which before the said storm
begun were Perfectly good tight and sound) were forced open in so much that the said
Ship or Vessel filled so fast with Water that it was with the utmost difficulty she was saved
from sinking notwithstanding every assistance and care was used and taken by the said
Joseph Russell< no role > and Henry Powell< no role > and the whole Ships Crew to save her and her Cargo and that
by means whereof Four Hundred and seventy eight Bushels of Salt Part of the said Salt or shipped
or loaded on board the said Ship or Vessel were totally lost and did Parish at Sea And lastly
these Deponents further say that the loss of the said Salt was not occasioned by any leekage
of the said Ship or Vessel or by any negligence or default of this Deponent the said Joseph
Russel as master of the said Ship or Vessel or any of the Mariners on board the same
