The Examination of Nicholas Parker< no role > taken before
me this thirteenth day of May 1715

This Examt. sayeth that on ye. 30th. day of April last having
occasion to goe on board the Parker Frigott lying at Stone
Scain near Ratcliff sent one Rice to the Swan Tavern
in Cornhill to enquire for Mr. Henry Lister< no role > This name instance is in set 2115. and to know
whether he would goe with this Examt. to Gravesend the
next day as was agreed on between the said Lister & this
Examt. and to tent the said Lister that this Examt. was gone
on board the said Parker Grigor And sayeth that about 7 or
8 of the clerk that afternoon returning in a boat the said
Rice Lister & Edward Newton< no role > then in a Boat on ye. Thames
met this Examt. and kept company with this Examts. boat
till they and this Examt. all pid on Shoat near Billingsgate
from whence they & this Examt. went to the Dog Tavern
at Billingsgate and for severall hours they all sate in the
Kitchen of ye. sd. Tavern And saith that he did not know
or heard that the said Newton and any mony or any
bagg till sometime after this Examt. was brought before
the Ld. Mayor and by him discharged when the sd. Rice
& this Examt. were charged with picking the said Newtons
pocket the said Rice did own that when he & the sd. Newton
were at the Swan Tavern the said Rice saw the said
Newton change a Pistale which he took out of a Bagg
But this Examt. saith that he never saw any of the said
Newtons mony or his bagg Nor did this Examt. know how ye.
said Rice came by the said Newtons porket Book but
did See a pocket book in his hand And saith that he never
said any thing of the said Newtons being ye. Son of a
Mathematician this Examt. knowing him to be otherwise
And that when the said Newton charged this Examt. as
aforesaid he unbutten'd his Coate & constroate & offered
himself to be searched
