and Overseers of the poore of the Parish of St. Kathrine

Sheweth

That by virtue of a Warrant under the hands and Seales of twoe of his
Maties. Justices of the peace within the City of London (Quor unus) bearing date
the 4th. day of Octobr 1699 One Dorothy Mathewes< no role > an infant the Daughter of
one Jno. Mathewes< no role > was brought to yor. Petrs. by the Churchwardens of Alhallowes
Steyning London on the Oath of Mary Mathewes< no role > the mother That the said Dorothy
was borne in yor. Petrs. Parish Whereas in truth the said John Mathews< no role > the Father
never was an Inhabitant settled by Lawe in their said Parish of St. Katherine
Creechurch

Yor. Petrs. therefore humbly pray yor. Honor. and Worpps to
hear them in the prmisses And Order the said Churchwardens
and Overseers of the poore of the Pish of St. Alhallowes Steyning
to Appeare here before you And to send the said Dorothy Matthewes< no role >
the Infant to the said Parish of Alhallowes Steyning to be
there kept and provided for untill They can Free themselves
of the Charge thereof by due course of Lawe
