Widow and Benjamin Read< no role > of Five Inkhorn Court Whitechapel [..]
Watchman taken this 8th day of February 1786 who being on their Oath's
say And first the said Mary Wilkes< no role > for herself Saith Yesterday about
The hour of Three in the afternoon as she was coming from Spitalfields to Messrs.
Rust and Sutton Tobacconists in Whitechapel High Street in passing a Narrow
place between Bell Lane and Cox Square she was met by Two Young Woman who
laid hold of her One of whom said Damn her This is the Woman that Stole the
Womans Cloak this Morning when the other said Damn her she is the Thief Take
it from her and Endeavoured to take the Cloak now produced out of her Apron
Says she [..] Struggled with said Women during which time Two men came
to this Informant and asked what was the matter when the said Women said damn
her she is a Thief she has Stole a Woman cloak When the Man who was on
her right side took hold of the said Cloak and forced it out of her Apron Says she
verily beleives the Prisoner present who says his name is [..] Hananel Fonseca< no role >
is the person who took the said Cloak from her as aforesaid. That the other man
took the Paper bag now produced containing Three pounds of Harl Tobacco
out of her said Apron which they tossed from One to the other and all Four
run awayBenjamin Reed< no role > for himself saith Yesterday afternoon about the
Hour of Three as he was he was going over the Broad place [..] near Wentworth Street
[..] in an Alley he saw the said Hananel Fonseca< no role > in Company of One or more Lad
he says to them you have made a Plunge somewhere when one of them said Damn your Eyes
let us Pass you Says He saw The Bag now produced in one of their handsaysand in Wentworth
Street near the sign of the Crop Keys he saw Mary Wilkes< no role > who was crying and said she
had lost her property and that the persons who had taken it had run away. Says he heard
a Man say to the said Mary Wilkes< no role > that he saw the Transaction and that he would
go with her to get the property againSays he went with her and the said other
man to look after the persons who had taken the property from her and near to
Gulston Square he met the said Hananel Fonseca< no role > with the said Paper bag of Harl
Tobacco [..] and that he seized the said Hananel and Secured him
