An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at London that is to say at the
Parish of Saint Michael Queenhithe in the Ward of Queenhithe in London aforesaid on the seventh day of
July in the thirtieth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third by the grace of God of Great Britain
France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith Etc. before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman Coroner of
our said Lord the King for the City of London and Borough of Southwark on view of the Body of Samuel Sherwood< no role >
now here lying dead [..] by the Oath of William Jarvis< no role > Richard Reily John Bate< no role > , John Ellsee James< no role >
Masters, John Long< no role > Henry Broome< no role > George Hemmings< no role > Joseph Parker< no role > Edward Jones< no role > John Pidgeon< no role >
John Phillips< no role > , and William Mocraft good and lawful men of the City of London aforesaid who being now
here duly chosen sworn and charged to inquire for our said Lord the King when how and what manner the
said Samuel Sherwood< no role > came to his death say upon their Oath that the said Samuel Sherwood< no role > on the eighth
day of July in the year aforesaid being employed by one John William Goss< no role > of Bull Wharf in the parish
aforesaid in the Ward aforesaid Warfinger in the lowering a certain Cask of Sugar by means of a certained
Crane belonging to the said John William Goss< no role > into a certain Vessell then lying in the River Thames and
near unto the said Wharf and the said Samuel Sherwood< no role > being then and there on the Wheel of the said Crane
it so happened that the [..] Weight of the said Cask of Sugar so lowering there from did then and there
force the said Wheel round with great violence By means whereof [..] of the inexperience of the said Samuel
Sherwood to manage the same he the said Samuel Sherwood< no role > was then and there with great force and violence
thrown from and out of the said Wheel to and against a certain Brick Wall near unto the said Wheel and the
said Wheel continuing to go round the said Samuel Sherwood< no role > was violently crushed between the said Wheel
and Wall By means whereof he the said Samuel Sherwood< no role > did then and there receive divers mortal wounds
and bruises in and upon the head face back sides arms legs and thighs of him the said Samuel Sherwood< no role >
Of which said Mortal wounds and bruises he the said Samuel Sherwood< no role > did then and there die And so the
Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do say that the said Samuel Sherwood< no role > in manner and by the
means aforesaid casually and by Misfortune was accidentally killed And that the said Wheel of the said
Crane was moving to the Death of the said Samuel Sherwood< no role > and is of the value of five shillings and the
property and in the possession of the said John William Goss< no role > In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner
as the said William Jarvis< no role > on behalf of himself and the rest of his Fellows in their presence have to this
Inquisition set their hands and seals the day year and place first above written
