Upon reading a Report from the Comittee of this Hospital dated the 21st. day of July
last under the hands of The Right Worshipfull Robert Alsop< no role > Esqr . Alderman & Treasurer

< no role > Esqr . as fellows Vizt.In Pursuance of an Order of Court of the 27th. of
April last This Comittee considerd the Petition of the Reverend Mr. Henry Foster< no role > Clerk
setting forth That he has been Reader and Schoolmaster in this Hospital 40 years has
constantly attended his duly & hopes to the satisfaction of the Governors But by reason of
his great Age and infirmity is unable now to perform the same& praying that the
Governors will be pleased to take the matter into their consideration and to allow him such
assistance as to them shall seem meetand the said Mr. Foster being calld in he
acquainted the Comittee that he is unable to perform any part of his duly which he said
was as Reader to read prayers twice every Sunday and once on Wednesdays Fridays and
Holydays and catechize the Boys in Lent time and as Schoolmaster to teach the Apprentices
in this Hospital to write an hear every morning in their turns. He likewise acquainted
this Comittee That he had for several years past visited the sick and performd the office
of Christenings and Buryals for which he never received any of the Fees But that Dr.
Atterbury used to make him presents in consideration thereof but that he never had any
consideration on that account from Dr. Yalden. And the said Mr. Foster being askt
what he was willing to allow out of his Salary which is £50 P ann towards such
Assistant he answered he entirely submitted that to the Comittee and then withdrew
This Comittee are of Opinion that an Assistant be allowd to Mr. Foster during
the pleasure of the Court and that such Assistant be allowd £10 P ann by Mr. Foster
and Twenty pounds by the Governors for which he is to do the duly of the Reader and
Schoolmaster as before mentiond and that it be recomended to Mr. Foster to let him have
a Chamber in his ApartmentAnd this Comittee are of opinion that the duly of
visiting the Sick and of Christenings and Buryals are dutys & services incident and
belonging to the office of Minister and Preacher of this Hospital All which nevertheless
is submitted to the Judgment of the Court And it is Ordered that this Opinion be reported
to the next CourtThis Court doth agree with the said Comittee and
confirm the said Report And it is Ordered That Dr. Yalden the
Minister in this Hospital be acquainted therewith.

Ordered that the Election day be next Thursday.
