The Examination of William Ferry< no role > Fenley taken on Oath
the 20th. day of February 1788 before me one of his Majestys
Justices of the Peace for the County of Middlesex .

Who on his Oath Saith That on the Tenth day of January last between
Eight and Nine O'Clock in the Evening he then being at the house of Mr. Cooper
in Church Lane White Chapel was sent for by his wife to come home which
he did directly, and when he came home he found in his house two men
and two or three other men standing at his door who brought with them
four pieces of White and one piece of Pink Stormont Callico and offered to
Sell the same to him and he bought them for three Guineas and a half of
the two men who were in the house whose names were Briggs and
Goldsmith, Then the same two men told this Examinant that they had
some more to sell and accordingly this Examinant appointed to meet
them at a room in a Court in East Smithfield and then in a night or
two after did meet three men at the Black horse on Tower hill where
two of whom were Briggs and Goldsmith the name of the other he did not know
they were all drinking in one Box together, two of the three men came out to
the door and told this Examinant that each of them had brought a piece
and had left them at the room that was appointed And told this Examinant
that he [..] had the other pieces too cheap and that the Price of the sd
must be two Guineas and a half to which he agreed and paid the said
Goldsmith the money. On the next night he [..] met
Briggs Goldsmith and three other men at the black horse aforesaid
then Briggs and Goldsmith came out to the door and told this Examinant
that they had left five pieces at the room aforesaid at East Smithfield
for which he paid Goldsmith three Guineas and half, And Saith
that the next night Goldsmith met him again at the black horse
aforesaid and informed him that he had left two pieces of the same
sort at the room aforesaid In East Smithfield for which he paid him one
Guinea and a half And Saith that he hath seen three men in Custody
in Newgate the names of two of them is Briggs and Goldsmith
and one other whose name he doth not know who were three of
the five men above mentioned to beat the Black horse on
Tower hill aforesaid And this Examinant further Saith That
the six pieces of Printed Callico now produced are part of the
property which he bought of the men abovementioned
