Examination TextThe Examination of Ann Gainer in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields of taken upon oath this 30th Day of December in the year of our Lord 1751. This Examinant on her oath says that she is 30 years of age and upwards and is the wife of Lawrence Gainer (who has been gone from her seven years) to whom she was married at the ffleet seven years ago last October, that he is a Taylor by trade but where he learnt the same she can't tell, that he was born in the Kingdom of Ireland but the particular part she can't tell, that he never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together in England to her knowledge, that before her intermarriage she was a yearly hired servant to John Thompson a Broker in Castle Street by Long Acre in the Parish aforesaid for the space of 12 years at the yearly wages of 30 shillings 40 shillings and 3 pounds, quitted the same about five years ago and hath not been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before Benjamin Cox.
