Examination TextThe Examination of Margaret Marr singlewoman destitute of lodging taken upon oath this 27th Day of July 1753. This Examinant upon her oath saith that she is 29 years of age and upwards and never was married, that she was on the ninth day of January last delivered at the house of Sarah Phillips in Castle Court in Castle Street in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields of a Male bastard Child (not yet christened) yet living and become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that John Simpson a Waiter at the sign of the Spaniard at Hampstead had carnal knowledge of her body in the month of April which is in the year 1752 in and upon a bed in a garret of the house of Mr Stubley at the sign of the Cock and Hoop in the Old Artillery Ground in Gun Street and several times afterwards at the same place at which or one of which times he the said John Simpson did beget on her body the said Male bastard child, and that he the said John Simpson is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before Benjamin Cox, Edward Aske.
