Examination TextThe Examination of Elizabeth Burrowstone singlewoman in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this [blank] Day of [blank] 1753. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is about 20 years of age and never was married bound an apprentice kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds or paid any parish taxes, but that she was a yearly hired servant to Thomas Hyde a Victualler at the sign of the Horse Shoe in that part of Chandos Street which is in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields aforesaid for the space of one whole year at the yearly wages of 26 pounds shillings diet and lodging, quitted the same about four years ago and hath not been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since, And this Examinant upon her oath further saith that she was on the first Day of April instant delivered in the workhouse aforesaid of a female bastard child(since christened [blank]) yet living and become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that Rowland Cooper a Butcher lately a journeyman to Mr Boon a Butcher in Chandos Street had carnal knowledge of her body in the month of [blank] last in and upon a bed in the Kitchin below stairs at the house of Mr Boon's aforesaid and several times afterwards in the same place at which or one of which times he the said Rowland Cooper did beget on her body the said female bastard child, and that he the said Rowland Cooper is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
