| Examination Text | The Examination of Ann Allen singlewoman lodging at Moors Yard in the Parish St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this 27th Day of October 1757. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is about 18 years of age, that she never was married bound an apprentice kept [house] rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year or paid any parish taxes, that she this Examinant was a yearly hired servant to General Abercrombie in Craven Street in the Parish aforesaid for the space of one whole year at the yearly wages of 6 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same about six months ago, And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is now Great with child or children which is or are likely be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that Thomas McPherson Footman to General Abercrombie in Lisle Street by Leicester Fields had carnal knowledge of her body about the month of May last in and upon a bed up one pair of stairs backwards in the house of general Abercrombie in Craven Street and several times afterwards at the same place at which or one of which times he the said Thomas McPherson did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said Thomas McPherson is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
