Examination TextJane Matthews aged 55 years lodging at a Chandler's Shop opposite the sign of the George in Hedge Lane in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields upon her oath saith that she is the widow of Henry Matthews (who died seven years ago) to whom she was married at Hackney Church by Newington the 18th October in the year 1739, that her said husband was bound an apprentice by an indenture bearing date the 2nd September 1731 to Henry Merlin a Peruke Maker in Suffolk Street in the Parish aforesaid and there served all his said time out, that her said husband never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since the expiration of his said apprenticeship, nor hath she this Examinant since the said husband's death, that she hath one child living by her said husband to wit Mary aged 12 years now with this Examinant. Sworn the 24th Day of March 1762 before Benjamin Cox.
