| Examination Text | The Examination of Jane Cutler singlewoman in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed from the Parish of St. James Clerkenwell in the County of Middlesex taken upon oath this 13th Day of March 1762. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 21 years of age, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr Field a Leather Seller in that part of Castle Street near St Martin's Court which lies is in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields for the space of 14 months at the yearly wages of 3 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same about three years ago, that she never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor hath been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since, And this Examinant upon her oath further saith that she is now Great with child or children which is or are likely to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that James Van, a Shoemaker (of whom she can give no account of where he is) did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said James Van is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
