Examination TextThe Examination of Martha Glover now servant to Mr Jackson a Hatter in Hungerford Market taken upon oath this fourth Day of June 1765. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 30 years of age, that she is the widow of John Glover, that since the death of her said husband she this Examinant (having no child living) was a yearly hired servant to the Mr Jackson's [sic] in Hungerford market aforesaid for the space of three years and upwards at the yearly wages of five pounds diet and lodging, And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is now Great with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that James Robinson a Stocking Maker lodging at the said Mr Jackson's had carnal knowledge of her body the 26th of December last in and upon a bed in the Kitchin at the house of Mr Jackson aforesaid and several times afterwards at the same place at which or one of which times he the said James Robinson did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said James Robinson is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year aforesaid before Peter Planck.
