Examination TextThomas Purford aged 29 years in the workhouse of and in the parish of St. Martin in the Fields, passed from the parish of Ealing in the county of Middlesex upon his oath saith that he was bound an apprentice (by the offiecers of the parish of Kingston upon Thames in the county of Middlesex) by an indenture for seven years to Charles Clarke a Cabinet Maker in Salisbury Street in the said parish of St. Martin in the Fields, and there served his said Master about four years and then went to sea which is about 12 years ago, that he never was assigned over to any person kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since he quitted his said Master in Salisbury Street, that he was married to his present wife Anne at the Parish Church of Ealing aforesaid the fourth Day of March in the year 1764 by whom he hath two children to wit Thomas aged two years and upwards and William aged 11 months both now with this Examinant. Taken in the workhouse the eighth day of February 1768.
