Examination Text | Susannah Hilliar aged 32 years and upwards lodging at Mr Powell's a Taylor in Dukes Street in St Martin's Lane in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields upon her oath saith that she is the widow of Minus Hilliar [sic] (who died about four months ago) to whom she was married at St Martin's Church in the Parish aforesaid about near 10 years ago, that her said husband was a Taylor by trade, that he was born Holland as she this Examinant hath been informed and verily believes, that he never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together in England to this Examinant's knowledge, that she this Examinant was bound an apprentice by an indenture (by the Parish officers of St Giles Cripplegate London) to Mr Card an Embroiderer in Brownlow Street in the Parish of St Giles in the Fields in the County of Middlesex, and there served her said Master some time, and then her said Master removed opposite Bedfordbury Chandos Street in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields and she this Examinant with him, and there served her said Master the last seven years of her apprenticeship which expired about 11 years ago, that she never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since, that she hath two children living by her said husband to wit James aged about eight years and John aged about seven years.
