Examination TextThe Examination of Ann Eaton in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields within the liberty of Westminster taken this first Day of April 1774. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 20 years of age and upwards, that she never was married, that she was on the 26th Day of February last delivered in the workhouse aforesaid of a Male bastard child (since christened George) yet living and is become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that Michael Humphrys a Carter late servant to Mr Benwell a Farmer at Cosham in Berkshire did beget on her body the said male bastard child, and that he the said Michael Humphrys is the true and only father thereof and no man else, that she this Examinant cannot tell where he the said Michael Humphrys is to be found or heard of. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before J. Treslove, John Goodchild.
