Examination TextThe Examination of Sarah Worley in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken this 11th Day of May 1774. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 29 years of age, that she never was married, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mrs Shepherd, widow, a Cook in Charles Street in the Parish aforesaid for the space of three years (except four months she was in an hospital with a sore leg) at the yearly wages of 4 pounds diet and lodging, that she quitted the said service about five weeks ago, And this Examinant on her oath further saith that she was on the third Day of March last delivered in the workhouse aforesaid of a Male bastard child (since christened John) yet living and is become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that John Quin a Bricklayer's Labourer (who is absconded) did beget on her body the said Male bastard child, and that he the said John Quin is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year above written before J. Treslove.
