Examination TextThe Examination of Mary Nichols in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed as a vagrant from the Parish of St [James] within the liberty of Westminster taken this [blank] Day of [blank] in the year 1778. this Examinant on her oath saith she is 15 years of age, that she never was married, that she was (by the officers of the Parish of St. George Hanover Square) bound an apprentice by an indenture untill she should attain the age of 21 years to William Norton a Painter in King Street in the Parish of St Giles in the Fields and there served her said master for between two and three years, and then her said Master removed to Mr Legrix a ffrench plate maker near Legg Alley in Long Acre in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and she this Examinant along with him, and there served her said Master about four months longer, and then on complaint of this Examinant against her said master for his ill usage of her she was discharged from her said Master's service by the justices in Litchfield Street which was last July. Sworn the [blank] Day of [blank] 1778 before [blank].
