| Examination Text | The Examination of Susannah Folkner passed from the parish St Giles in the Fields in the County of Middlesex to the Parish of St Martin in the Fields in the same county taken this 30th Day of December 1776. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 25 years of age, that she never was married, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mrs Smith widow of Mr Smith Belt maker opposite Northumberland Street in the Strand in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields for the space of three years and upwards all under one hiring at the yearly wages of 7 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same about two years ago, that she this Examinant hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor been yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since. And this Examinant Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is now big with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that John Kilby a journeyman Carpenter but where he is to be heard of she cannot tell had carnal knowledge of her body at the house of Mr Harper in Petty France in and upon a bed in the Garret at the said Mr Harper's house about the month of April or May last but the particular time she cannot remember and several times afterwards in the same place at which or one of which said times he the said John Kilby did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said John Kilby is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
