Examination TextThe Examination of Frances Hill passed from the Parish of St Olave in Hart Street in the City of London to the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken this 29th day of January 1775. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 17 years of age, that she never was married nor bound an apprentice, that she was yearly hired servant to Mrs Prat a Printer in New Round Court in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields for the space of one year and 10 months all under one hiring at the yearly wages of 4 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same about three weeks ago. And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is big with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that Joseph Cumber an apprentice to Mrs Prat aforesaid had carnal knowledge of her body in or about the month of June last in and upon a bed in the Kitchen at the said Mrs Prat's house and several times afterwards in the same place at which or one of which times he the said Joseph Cumber did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of and that he the said Joseph Cumber is the true and only father and no man else.
