Examination TextThe Examination of Eleanor Welch a Rogue and Vagabond apprehended by William Stone one of the Constables of the Liberty of Westminster in the County of Middlesex and brought before me one of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the Liberty of Westminster aforesaid taken this 19th day of December in the year of our Lord 1775. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 52 years of age, that she is the widow of John Welch (who died near 25 years ago) to whom she was married at the Parish Church of St Sepulchre in the City of London 35 years ago, that her said husband served his apprenticeship to Mr Careless a Butcher in the Parish of Wassingham in the Bishoprick of Durham, that her said husband never did any act to gain a subsequent settlement afterwards nor hath she this Examinant since the death of her said husband.
