Examination Text | The Examination of Elizabeth Wilkinson in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken this second day of December in the year 1775. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 29 years of age and upwards, that she never was married, that she was on the 24th Day of October last delivered in the workhouse of a female bastard Child (since christened Mary) yet living and is become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that Edward Pritchard a Victualler in Feathers Court, Holborn had carnal knowledge of her body in the month of February last in and on a bed in a room up two pairs of stairs backwards a house known by the sign of the Stair and Garter [sic] in Cecil Court and several times afterwards in the same place at which or one of which times he the said Edward Pritchard did beget on her body the said female bastard Child, and that he the said Edward Pritchard is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
