Examination TextThe Examination of Eleanor Mears taken this 21st Day of November 1775. This examinant on her oath saith that she is 39 years of age, that she is the widow of John Mears (who died about 14 years [sic]) to whom she was married at the Parish Church of St Andrew Holborn in the city of London 18 years ago, that her said husband never was bound an apprentice kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together to this examinant's knowledge, that her husband's father served an apprenticeship to Mr Wright a Cordwainer at Hampstead in the County of Middlesex as she this examinant hath been informed, that her said husband's father never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in one place for 12 months together after the expiration of his said apprenticeship to this examinant's knowledge, that she this examinant hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor been yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since the death of her said husband.
