Examination TextThe Examination of Elizabeth Neaton singlewoman taken upon oath this first Day of June in the year of our Lord 1740. Upon her voluntary oath saith she is about 22 years old, that she never was married and that on Sunday the 25th day of May last past she was delivered of a female bastard child (not yet christened) at the house of Mr Lesage in Hemmings Row in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields, yet living and likely to become chargeable at the said Parish, and that Daniel Commins, now or lately servant to the Reverend Dr Carmichael who keeps a ready furnished house in Suffolk Street in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields had carnal knowledge of her body some time in or about the month of August last past on a bed in the study the said Dr Carmichael at Sarstone Abbot near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, and also in her lodging room in the said house, she this Examinant then being a servant to the said Dr Carmichael, and also several times at which or one of which times he the said Daniel Commins did beget on her body the said female bastard child and no man else.
