Examination TextThe Examination of Jane Tinkerson singlewoman aged 24 years taken upon oath this 12th Day of January 1742. Who upon her oath saith she never was married bound an apprentice kept house rented 10 pounds by the year or paid any parish taxes, was born at Peterborough in Northamptonshire and came thence four years ago and was a yearly hired servant to Mr Holloway, a Brewer below the Mayole in East Smithfield in the Parish or precinct of St Catherine's two years and a half at the yearly wages of 5 pounds diet washing and lodging, quitted the same two months ago, And this Examinant upon her voluntary oath further saith that she was on Sunday the 13th Day of December last delivered of female bastard child (since christened Elizabeth) at a butcher's in Long Acre in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that one John Langley a Footman to her said Master Mr Holloway had carnal knowledge of her body in the month of April last in a bed in a room up two pair of stairs forward in Mr Holloway's house aforesaid and several other times in the same bed at which or one which times he begot on her body the said female bastard child, and that he the said John Langley is the true and only father thereof and no man else, which is since become chargeable to the said Parish.
